Scotland House Brussels is delighted to invite you to our annual St Andrew's Lecture, this year taking place on December 2, 2020, from 19:00-20:15 CET, via the Webex platform. The lecture will take place via the Webex platform. Our St Andrews Lecture is a longstanding tradition - inagurated by Scotland's first First Minister Donald Dewar in 1999, and we have welcomed distinguished speakers to Scotland House Brussels ever since.
This year - taking place online for the first time - the lecture will be delivered by Alan Mahon, Social Entrepreneur and Founder and CEO of Brewgooder. Brewgooder is a social enterprise aiming to provide clean water for 1,000,000 people through the power of craft beer by donating 100 per cent of its profits to clean water charities.
Alan is an award-winning social entrepreneur. He began his career at pioneering anti-homelessness social enterprise Social Bite in 2013, building a single-unit café business into a £3m a year chain and corporate catering business. Alongside Josh Littlejohn MBE he designed and executed numerous events and campaigns which created national moments including Sleep In The Park which saw 15,000 people sleep out across Scotland to call for a change in the Scottish Government’s homelessness policy - raising over £7m. He has also organised the Scottish Business Awards which welcomed George Clooney in 2015 and Leonardo DiCaprio in 2016.
In 2018 he was recognised by Big Issue Magazine as one of Britain’s top 100 Changemakers and was invited by the Obama Foundation to his European Townhall for Young European Leaders in Berlin in April 2019. Outside of work he’s a keen cyclist, paddleboarder, house plant enthusiast and home baker.
There are several events taking place as part of this years Winter Festival celebrations, including virtual concerts. You can find out more here.
