Lunchtime Discussion with Richard Lochhead MSP, Scotland's Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science

Scotland House

A nation with a rich history of science and invention, Scotland is a committed European partner in the fields of research and innovation. In this lunch event with stakeholders, Richard Lochhead MSP, the Scottish Government Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, will reflect on the theme of research excellence, and the present and future of Scotland’s relationship with EU research and innovation policy.

Research and innovation at Scottish universities remains cutting edge in global terms. Scotland recognises that international collaborations are a key factor this academic success, and values continued European collaboration and research. Scotland is proud to be a destination of choice for students and academics from many European nations and will continue to welcome EU citizens to study or work in Scotland.

Richard Lochhead MSP will be joined by Professor Sheila Rowan MBE, Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland, who is responsible for providing Scottish Government Ministers with expert advice on science-related issues and for informing policy development to benefit the economy, people and environment. In addition, the Director of Universities Scotland, the national representative body for Scotland's 19 Higher Education institutions, and senior representatives of the University of Strathclyde and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) will attend.

Registration is from 12:00 and we expect the event to run to 13:45. It will include a networking lunch, as well as a key note speech from the Minister and an exchange of views from Research, Science and Innovation experts.
