Remit: Scotland Europa promotes Scottish interests across the institutions of the European Union and to the representatives of Europe’s regions and nations. Scotland Europa membership brings together a wide range of Scottish organisations, including public authorities, businesses, local government, trade unions and education and voluntary organisations. This diverse partnership gives us a variety of perspectives on Scottish interests in Europe and an influential voice in European affairs. With experienced and specialised staff based in Brussels and Scotland, Scotland Europa fosters strong links between Scotland and Europe, providing intelligence, policy analysis and strategic funding advice.
Remit: The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) represents the interests of European local authorities and their associations in more than 40 countries. It is the largest and oldest pan European association and works on influencing EU and UN policies and legislation as well as promoting the cooperation between its member associations. COSLA is the Scottish member, chairing the Cohesion Expert Group and holding the spokespersonship on Territorial Development.
Remit: COSLA is the nominating body and secretariat of the two Scottish Councillors representing Scotland in this official body of the Council of Europe. Its main role is the monitoring of the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and to promote local democracy and good governance and observe municipal elections.
